AKELCO Presentation on Smart Grid SCADA GIS AMI and Substation Readiness

From 18 to 20 April 2024, the team presented key power distribution technologies to AKELCO, with a focus on practical use in electric cooperative operations.

The session covered Smart Grid, SCADA, GIS, AMI, and communications. The goal was clear: explain how these systems work together and assess whether existing substation devices can support SCADA integration.

The agenda focused on connected distribution systems

The presentation gave AKELCO an overview of how a smarter grid can improve monitoring, control, mapping, metering, and field communication.

The site visit checked SCADA readiness

The team visited the substation to inspect installed devices and verify if they were SCADA ready. This included checking equipment interfaces, control points, communication paths, and possible integration needs.

The next step is practical integration planning

The visit helped connect the discussion to actual field conditions. It also gave AKELCO a clearer view of what may be needed before full SCADA, GIS, AMI, and communications integration can move forward.

The presentation and inspection created a useful starting point for building a safer, more visible, and better-connected distribution network.
